The Destination
Set moments away from Sintra’s National Park, the retreat house sits just a ten-minute walk from the cliffs and golden sands of Praia da Aguda — a secluded stretch of coastline known for its quiet, unspoiled charm. Nearby lie the beaches of Magoito and Azenhas do Mar, a whitewashed village perched dramatically above the sea. The area invites exploration through winding forest paths and open views of the Atlantic. Only a short drive away, Sintra’s palaces, gardens, and mist-covered hills – a UNESCO World Heritage site – add an air of wonder and timeless beauty to the retreat’s setting.


The Retreat Host
Originally from Brazil and now based in London, Luiz Madalena is a yoga teacher and holistic coach known for his high-energy classes that blend strength, rhythm, and release.
Trained in the 4Beat method under its founder Marcus Veda, he’s part of the movement transforming London’s yoga scene — where breath, movement, and music flow in a four-count rhythm that feels both electric and mindful. His sessions balance powerful dynamic practice with restorative stillness, creating space to build strength and explore inversions, while having fun with flow and music.

Set in the quiet coastal landscape of Sintra, Shamballah Yoga Retreat offers a welcoming home atmosphere surrounded by open lawns and sea air. The house features five comfortable bedrooms — including a spacious master, one triple en-suite, and three twins — along with four bathrooms, cozy living areas, and a terrace made for unwinding outdoors. Soft light, gentle breezes, and the distant sound of the ocean create a calm, homely setting to rest and recharge between practices.
